Fujitsu and Taiwanese government to develop WiMAX broadband chips.(TAIWAN)

Fujitsu and the government of Taiwan will jointly create WiMAX broadband chips in Taiwan in order to achieve commercialization of the new mobile technology in the region. WiMAX is a high-speed wireless Internet access that enables service providers to provide coverage over areas of around 50km. Intel has been the main force behind the popularization of this technology.

The company will bundle its own WiMAX chips in personal computers in 2008. This contract deal between Taiwan and Fujitsu could lead to the spreading of the WiMAX standard, as the majority of the cellphones and PCs are made by Taiwan-based firms.
